Humans are so flippin' dumb.

that's what's extra infuriating: everyone's so obsessed with violently enforcing their "COVID is over" narrative, mask mandates and conventions are being torn down even where they were common before COVID!

Just a few months ago, friends told me about people refusing to wear respirators in an asbestos-contaminated building. Asbestos!

I caught a bus from the bus stop just outside Wimbledon Bridge House. Every time I go to that bus stop I'm reminded of the old days of Domark and Eidos and so on, and also there was Ian Jackson, and all that '80s stuff.

I wonder if people living in Silicon Valley get that kinda of feeling all the time, as there are just so many tech company HQs there.

On the way home: The Tower of London at night.

I went to my main client's xmas do today. Nice people, and quite a nice restaurant this year. But if they wanted me not to be distracted, why'd they put a rack cabinet at the end of the table! 😝

Content warning: Hmm, maybe if you are sensitive to flashing lights, perhaps try not to walk along my road...!

Content warning: Minecraft again!

Woo.

I've never actually used the Atlas measurement network other than a quick experimental poke at it many years ago, so I probably won't actually use these credits, but anyway, nice to know. :]

(The main reason it's not near 100% uptime is because the probe failed at one point and I had to replace its USB flash stick to get it working again. It was dead for a few months before I had a compelling reason to go to the datacentre and fix it! Then I moved it to home so I'll be able to fix it more easily if it breaks again.)

Content warning: Minecraft again!

I'm enough of a Murderbot fan that I built this in a corner of The Ace Place (Minecraft build I showed pics of recently). It's a SecUnit cubicle (as the sign says) with just a little bed and a light inside, and the doors automatically open just before the earliest time it's possible to sleep each night, and a bell dings to remind me to "roll it over" to morning. Stupid that I'm so much more disciplined at going to bed in a video game than I've ever been in real life…

So, my laptop might need its keyboard replacing; the W and O keys both seem to be going wonky - smetimes not registering, ther times registering *after* I hit the next key, transposing them. I know why the W is giong: Minecraft. Not sure why the O is, though.

So, I look at the handy-dandy service manual.

oh.

(Grr. I wonder if there's a way to fix it from the front…)

A few more outside views of the ace rotunda.

I've been building away on @nano :nanoBlobOwO:'s Minecraft server, and wanted to share a few pictures. But then I found my "ace rotunda" is kinda difficult to get interesting pictures of because there aren't really any good angles, oh well!

It doesn't look like much, but this was my achievement on Sunday. Hard to see, but there's a wire there, hanging between the two houses. Outdoor cat5e cable, ends crimped on by me, and actually working. It's temporary, don't worry!

And of course a few more selfies when I got back… I can't help it. Apparently. πŸ™„ πŸ€·β€β™‚οΈ

Hurrah! Just in time, I remembered it was Halloween night, got suited up, and got out to high five local trick-or-treaters. I got the usual selfies first to check I'd got my face on straight… 😁

Happy Halloweem everyone! πŸŽƒ

Who's that looming out of the dark…?

Oh, it's been too long since I sat on a beach. You've made me want to do that again. Last photos I took on a beach seem to be from over 4 years ago, from the ancient before-times when we didn't even know what a Covid was.

Shrinkflation proceeds unabated.

I'm not sure why, but I find this kind of systematic demolition in Minecraft quite satisfying.

Wot the hecc, let's do a #FursuitFriday. I may not have a fluff I like very much any more but I'm allowed, dammit.

(To clarify, I still adore Kelsey and want the best for them, it's just that their only incarnation is very old and threatening to fall apart. They deserve a better physical form but I'm too poor and/or lazy to provide one. I guess I'm just a bad guardian for a cartoon character to be lumbered with.)

I feel a big need to cosplay this character. I doubt any acting skill would be required.

Okay, I will try not to immierse in fire, cheap Chinese string of fairy lights. πŸ™„

I think the forecast for today has actually been revised downward, which is unheard of. Tomorrow will be hellish. Definitely looking forward to Monday and beyond. I hate heat. I am a depressed and useless lump in this weather. I probably ought to go outside and get exercise because it's cooler than in this house that's so well insulated it's almost impossible to passively cool. Wish the air con man would get back to us with a date he can actually come and commission the mini-spilt system we've already 95% installed.

Oh good, glad it's not just my bread that ends up with holes inside it - supermarket "bread" does too sometimes!

For "to help you checkout more easily" read "our machine will loudly call you out and refuse to let you proceed with your purchase unless and until you comply, because we do not trust you".

So small and yet so expensive. No wonder the packaging almost, in a way, resembles a jewel box!

I got some new black leggings off ebay and noticed when I first handled them that my fingers came away grey. Rinsed them in the wash basin and… wow. The water went nearly *black*. Even after 4 sets of rinse water they were still shedding so much dye the water was still going a dark grey/brown/purple colour. More incentive to actually start making my own soon; I just need to find/adjust/finalise a good pattern and actually spend the time. It does also require getting over the fear of messing up and wasting materials… I need to remember that fabric is relatively cheap, and once I've had some practice the risk of messing up will be minimal - any mess-ups are an investment, the pay-off being, hopefully, better stuff to wear!

Before and after.

(Getting the rental house next door ready to be sold, involving a new fence to reestablish boundaries between our garden and its, and removing the apple tree that fell into the rental house's garden a few years ago. After it fell, I cut off all the branches I could get through with a hand-saw, but it clearly still had a well-connected root system and started sprouting new branches and growing apples before we could get anyone in to take the trunk away, so it came to be something of a feature. But sadly it Just Won't Do if the place is to sell with a decent amount of garden, so unfortunately it had to be cut up and fed through the shredder this weekend. πŸ™)

I went up the black mountains and it was very pretty. Take a look at some photos of them I uglified with a motorbike. I took all of them close to Gospel Pass, which is apparently the highest public road in Wales! (The last photo's a panorama, the bike's still there, just small and parked in the distance!)

Oh wow, they make hard copies of webcomics nowadays! (Not mine, it belongs in the house we're staying in.)

I've slept two nights in this room so far and only today noticed these on the wall.

We rescued this little individual from our holiday house kitchen earlier and put them outside. Such shiny wing-cases!

The pub we had lunch in clearly had a Pterry fan in charge at some point. πŸ™‚
