Wot the hecc, let's do a #FursuitFriday. I may not have a fluff I like very much any more but I'm allowed, dammit.

(To clarify, I still adore Kelsey and want the best for them, it's just that their only incarnation is very old and threatening to fall apart. They deserve a better physical form but I'm too poor and/or lazy to provide one. I guess I'm just a bad guardian for a cartoon character to be lumbered with.)

I feel a big need to cosplay this character. I doubt any acting skill would be required.

Okay, I will try not to immierse in fire, cheap Chinese string of fairy lights. 🙄

I think the forecast for today has actually been revised downward, which is unheard of. Tomorrow will be hellish. Definitely looking forward to Monday and beyond. I hate heat. I am a depressed and useless lump in this weather. I probably ought to go outside and get exercise because it's cooler than in this house that's so well insulated it's almost impossible to passively cool. Wish the air con man would get back to us with a date he can actually come and commission the mini-spilt system we've already 95% installed.

Oh good, glad it's not just my bread that ends up with holes inside it - supermarket "bread" does too sometimes!

For "to help you checkout more easily" read "our machine will loudly call you out and refuse to let you proceed with your purchase unless and until you comply, because we do not trust you".

So small and yet so expensive. No wonder the packaging almost, in a way, resembles a jewel box!

I got some new black leggings off ebay and noticed when I first handled them that my fingers came away grey. Rinsed them in the wash basin and… wow. The water went nearly *black*. Even after 4 sets of rinse water they were still shedding so much dye the water was still going a dark grey/brown/purple colour. More incentive to actually start making my own soon; I just need to find/adjust/finalise a good pattern and actually spend the time. It does also require getting over the fear of messing up and wasting materials… I need to remember that fabric is relatively cheap, and once I've had some practice the risk of messing up will be minimal - any mess-ups are an investment, the pay-off being, hopefully, better stuff to wear!

Before and after.

(Getting the rental house next door ready to be sold, involving a new fence to reestablish boundaries between our garden and its, and removing the apple tree that fell into the rental house's garden a few years ago. After it fell, I cut off all the branches I could get through with a hand-saw, but it clearly still had a well-connected root system and started sprouting new branches and growing apples before we could get anyone in to take the trunk away, so it came to be something of a feature. But sadly it Just Won't Do if the place is to sell with a decent amount of garden, so unfortunately it had to be cut up and fed through the shredder this weekend. 🙁)

I went up the black mountains and it was very pretty. Take a look at some photos of them I uglified with a motorbike. I took all of them close to Gospel Pass, which is apparently the highest public road in Wales! (The last photo's a panorama, the bike's still there, just small and parked in the distance!)

Oh wow, they make hard copies of webcomics nowadays! (Not mine, it belongs in the house we're staying in.)

I've slept two nights in this room so far and only today noticed these on the wall.

We rescued this little individual from our holiday house kitchen earlier and put them outside. Such shiny wing-cases!

The pub we had lunch in clearly had a Pterry fan in charge at some point. 🙂

The place I'm currently holidaying at has a basement that just shouts [TENSE MUSIC INTENSIFIES]:

I have broken my ATGATT streak. It was only 300 metres, to put the bike away in the garage, but I couldn't be bothered putting the full set of gear on yet again, and the speed and duration, and therefore the risk, were pretty minimal, so I didn't. So I did this instead. I passed a few pedestrians on the way along the road to the garage and I'm sure I must've got a few double-takes. 😝

(It was kinda worrying though, don't think I'll do that again!)

Go go little caterpillar I saw walking across the pavement earlier this afternoon! You can do it, find somewhere safe!

Cause and effect.

I didn't know they actually sold these for real!

I managed to get hold of a replacement battery for the bike today, phew. Was going to order from MDS (my usual go-to place for UPS batteries) but found the local Halfords had it £5 cheaper and available to walk in and collect rather than waiting a day or two (or paying another £5 for next-day). So that's now sitting on charge. Turns out they no longer sell these batteries un-activated with a bottle of sulphuric acid because the acid's now classified as a poison. So it turns out the label on the box says the battery was activated last month, which could be up to 8 weeks ago, so I'm giving it a good charge first, and installing it tomorrow.

I had the steering head bearings replaced today (which involves taking the whole front of the bike apart apparently so I'm glad I didn't try to do that myself), and while I haven't tried the steering with the front wheel off the ground I did give it a ride around and… I think it's better? I think it's more subconscious, but I think I can detect myself riding a bit more confidently, which would be because the handlebars are no longer trying to pull to the centre when they are *nearly* centred, which is what the problem with the bearings would have been causing.

So, battery swap tomorrow morning, MOT test tomorrow afternoon, trip to Wales soon after that…?

[Delayed post from a few hours ago.] Welcome home, me! Haven't seen this for a while. I hope this will become a more familiar sight. Only thing now is, do I *have* to change? Couldn't I just stay like this indefinitely? (Answer: no, not if I want to eat!)

A road, near Shepherd's Bush, that I cycled along on my trip to see a potential client on Friday. It was really rather pleasant to see something like this in London — a fully pedestrianised road with a line of trees down the middle of it (giving shade and making it kinda difficult to allow motor vehicles in!), still fairly wide (not just footpath width) and it looks like it would make for a rather nice place to live! Don't we need more of our residential roads to be like this, rather than being designed mostly for cars with narrow footpaths along the edges?

I feel I need a friend like Ronb1nt5cat5co.

@Cheetah Obscura I can only read those words in Kenneth Williams' voice, from Carry On Screaming.

Aaaand… just checkin'. Yep. Even with the sun shining directly into my eyes, you can't see in. 😁

[From a couple of hours ago] There we go! Me, bike, ready for a ride. Haven't done this in a long time! 🙂

Oh. In the text entry box in Friendica it shows the username I'm replying to, but that disappears when I actually post - I assume it's in metadata so Friendica decides it doesn't need to be in the actual post text. But then I do see plenty of replies posted from Mastodon which also don't start with a username, but *are* threaded properly, so the post it's a reply to must be correctly listed in the metadata there too. When I click through to my reply on your instance it does show it properly threaded, so… I dunno? As you can see in the screenshot below, most of the other replies in this thread don't have a username at the start either, as shown on my Friendica instance. On the other hand, clicking through to the same thread on your Mastodon instance shows usernames at the start of every reply except mine. I don't know. It does seem to thread correctly though.

My biggest niggle is that Friendica shows only @-style usernames inside replies, but only display-names at the top of posts and replies, so matching them up sometimes requires annoying mousing-over to check usernames. 🤷‍♂️

Sorry, it's annoying, I guess it's just slightly different interpretations of some spec by different software.

Yeah, that does seem to happen occasionally. I assume it's a bug somewhere. It happens rarely enough that I can say "oh, that again" and ignore it though. 🤷‍♂️

Back in April my sister got married, and I took Kelsey to the reception! He got quite a good welcome, from the children there in particular, and I found this bit of video my dad took. These two little girls (twins, I think) ended up following him around all evening (well, the hour or two I was in suit), utterly enamoured. 😁

And when I finally got home… exhausted! Collapse.

Amazing how similar this area now looks, in the summer, to Mediterranian regions. When I was young we had to go to Spain to see scraggly dried-up grass scorching in the sun everywhere like this…

Okay, that was a rather nice time! From the moment I got there I was swamped with people wanting photos. Walked around the showground once or twice, had a lot of nice encounters and a small number where I wasn't sure what was going on but none that were actually bad, which is good. 🙂

No time for pictures while I was there, but I did get a few on the way home.

On my way to Mitcham for the carnival. 😊

Aha, nailed it! It's always good when the centre lines up perfectly (or this close!)

(Meant to post this on Saturday, but Friendica doesn't support uploading videos… not sure what the best workaround will be. Install peertube!? Anyway…)

Sun's out!
