I made my first infographic. :)

Since I’m going through a bad autistic burnout myself, seems like a good topic to make a graphic about. Might be relatable for someone.

Also a 420 reference, and apparently it has been changed already. I'm getting the feeling it may have been on douchey dev and not company perspective. I'll be interesting to see if they have a public response to that.

Politics can be complex but every so often it’s pretty easy to tell which side of history you’re on. For example, if you require heavily armed riot police to brutalise your opponents for protesting against genocide, that’ll be the wrong side.

fun fact: there is a catalogue called "the red list of endangered crafts" that lists endangered techniques, crafts, arts and various skills that are under the threat of extinction. i only found one for the UK but i am pretty sure there have to be more for other countries

the upside of having ADHD is that I can complete a month's worth of work for a whole team in the space of a weekend and a couple of evenings.

the downside of having ADHD is that I keep putting myself in situations where I need to complete a month's worth of work for a whole team in the space of a weekend and a couple of evenings.

Every time some wannabe economics nut starts explaining how people should be economically rational explain that economically rational people would look at their pet cat when it needed the vet and conclude that since new cats are basically free it's not economically rational to repair the existing one.

I want a game where you rewild a place. A bit like Minecraft or Satisfactory, but in reverse. Is that a thing?

Cyrrus mastodon (AP)

Oooh! Will definitely do some homework on this one.

I just want a game where I can chill and make things better. I enjoy Minecraft when I want to just zone out. But on my most recent session, the resource harvesting felt kinda bad. I didn’t like marring the view. So then I tried carving my house into a canyon. Which was cool! Except then i went exploring (without a map. Agh) and I can’t find my house because it’s indistinguishable from everything else, and I somehow ended up in a seed absolutely full of canyon biomes. >..> I eco-friendlied too hard. I flew into the sun. XD

@mynotaurus I uselessly can't remember the name now but there's some other game I've heard people talking about recently that involves rewilding, but I tuned out when it apparently also involved 'survival'. Will let you know if I find the name though!

Fun thing I learned today. To normal people "ethernet" sounds like some kind of wireless network. And they will tell you that the wifi isn't working after selecting ethernet in the Windows 11 installer (since they don't know ethernet needs a cable). I can't even blame them, "ethernet" does sound like some kind of radio thing ("in the ether").

come use instant messaging, it'll be fun! you just have to pick your preferred platform:
- silicon valley enshitification machine
- nazis and grifters
- questionable privacy policies
- barely a MVP
- unapologetic walled garden
- less honest about being mostly a walled garden
- Unable to decrypt message.
- 2005 called, they wanted their messaging protocol back

Solar power is so cheap that Amazon villages are using it to provide free services for all, like solar powered water buses and internet, while dramatically reducing water and air pollution.

This is what the oil industry is fighting against.

Ask your counter party to swear and say something disparaging about a famous political figure.

All the commercially viable, Internet facing ones, have guard rails for polite conversation.

Swearing will be our captcha, our human shibboleth.

sometimes its interesting to go into best buy to see what computers “normal” people are buying.

making a slick Svelte app is fun and all on my M1 Pro but how much do i need to optimize my stuff for the majority of people using whatever $500 gets you from HP.

we, as product makers, get swept up in the latest, shiniest thing & set our assumptions accordingly.

“Well everyone’s at least on an M1 right” my brother in christ my mom just bought a Lenovo yesterday and it has a Celeron + 4GB memory

Getting attacked for using Telegram within 30 ms of the Tucker Carlson announcement has definitely added to my misery today. I don't have the spoons to immediately transition my entire social life to some other instant messaging app, undoubtedly losing a lot of contacts along the way who either switch to a different app or stay on TG.

My desire to be online and social is waning. I'm content with my own company, and I'm perfectly happy gardening or spannering on vehicles and other projects. So maybe that's the answer. Just fade away.

The enshittifcation of the Internet is just accelerating at such a fast pace and it's getting so exhausting, I absolutely sympathise... 😿
@RinaVolpina I'm fucking done, TBH. Trying to research issues with my van led to page after page of AI-generated garbage, I've got a few DMs accusing me of being a Nazi sympathiser for not immediately quitting TG, a few others accusing me of being anti-Semitic for being opposed to thousands of children being murdered, and on and on. It's just not worth it any more.

Something has changed.

I feel no sense of joy using the internet. No curiosity. No intrigue. No excitement. That feeling of tapping into an endless world of possibilities is gone, replaced with a begrudging realization that I’ll have to enter it again and battle to find what I need, trudging through ads, paywalls, vitriol, disinformation, and more.

I’ve come to the realization that I kinda hate the internet now.

It's polluted with ads of every form, type and size — popups, banners, baked-in ads on videos, sponsored posts — and they are now invasive to the point that they have harmed the internet experience. They are everywhere.

Worse, we’re tracked around the internet (thank you cookies) in an attempt to make these ads more ‘relevant’; instead, they’re just creepy and have convinced huge swathes of the internet-using population that their computers are listening to them.

Thanks in part to these ads, most websites are bordering on unusable. Huge areas of white space that are really video ads struggling to load. Then, a chatbot pops up to ask if you need help (and if you engage with them, the advice is the opposite of helpful). Then popup windows offering you shitty PDF guides in return for your email address.

You know, in the 80s people often said things like "in 40 years, everything will have computers in them", and while they weren't wrong, they severely underestimated the situation.
Our computers have computers in them. Those smaller computers often have even smaller computers inside them.

We didn't get a "everything is a computer" future, we got a future with fractal computers. The fuckers have metastasized

I'm hoping an organism will evolve that breaks down computers and eats them. Happened for wood, millions of years ago. (May have taken a long time though.) And it's starting to happen for plastic.
