I'm not sure what bit of my brain is responsible for this, but I just have a habit of accumulating *stuff*.

Things that seem interesting, or are cheap, or look like they might be useful.

The problem is that when I realise "oh I've got too much stuff", I absolutely fail at getting rid of things.

It's the sort of "this is just a bit too nice to straight up throw away, but finding someone who might use it is a bit of a stretch"

PSA: Twitter* links are almost completely useless if you don't have an account.

Links to tweets will give you that one tweet, none of the replies or other parts of the same thread. Links to profiles will just redirect to a login screen.

If you post a twitter link, it is useless to a lot of people. Add a screenshot or copy the text you want people to see.

(before you reply that you already know: I know that you, dear reader, know. you are awesome that way, after all. but people who still have a twitter* account don't, because they don't see this)

Instead of

sudo nano /etc/whatever

try running

sudo -e /etc/whatever

This will make a copy of the file to be edited by your normal editor, unprivileged, and when you exit the editor, the original file's contents will be replaced.

The cool thing about this is that you're inside your familiar environment, with your editor's config and all.

The disadvantages are that you have to _exit_ the editor to apply the changes, and you can't load other files.

Okay, drop everything. tom7 has found a reasonable use case for generative "AI".

Creating fully justified text paragraphs (that's when all lines are the same length, as opposed to simple left-aligning).

Not by introducing hyphens or optimizing the whole paragraph like previous-century #typesetting systems (e.g. #TeX) do.

But by rewriting the text to choose different words that fit better.
