Signs you have carpenter ants

1. keep finding tiny tools
2. city sends tiny permit to affix to baseboard
3. try to move a book, are told “keep this entrance clear, ma’am” because of “cement delivery coming later”
4. Your dish rack is dismantled “because it’ll be cheaper to rebuild from scratch”
5. no room on the dresser due to like 85 tiny pickups illegally parked there
6. husband keeps hearing high pitched wolf whistles when exiting shower

Stop giving links on websites the text "here".

You can find something here.

is making it really hard for anyone with a screen reader to go back and "click" the link afterwards.
Your link should have a text like:

You can also have a look at the accessibility guidelines for websites if you want more information.

Bam, suddenly everyone knows exactly what that link is, and if someone with a screenreader gets the link names read out they also know exactly what this link will be without having to let it read the entire sentence again.

I need name suggestions for my new #bat #fursuit

Possibly something related to being purple, or looking like a certain type of fruit, or just something bat-sounding. Suggestions please!

Edit: So far my favorites are "Plumbob", "Pleione" and "Professor Mustard"

i hate how home consoles now are just "pc with fucked up freebsd/windows".

they should make another console that has 7 cores of an architecture you've never heard of

games should run at kernel level and have to include their own scheduler. don't worry, you can have 3 cores of 3 different architectures to manage filesystem access and such.

The reason calling MAGA weirdos weird works is Wilhoit's law:
“Conservatism consists of exactly one proposition, to wit: There must be in-groups whom the law protects but does not bind, alongside out-groups whom the law binds but does not protect.”
If you tell them they're the out-group their entire worldview collapses and they imagine what it would be like if they were on receiving end of habitual cruelty.

As a Brit I don’t find ‘weird’ that bigger insult, it feels a little tame given I tend to like a lot of people who self confess to being weird.

Don’t see so many folks describing themselves as ‘creepy’ though…

Apart from a Thom Yorke from Radiohead who said both:

‘But I'm a creep, I'm a weirdo
What the hell am I doing here?
I don't belong here’

Which if #Trump had Yorke’s self awareness would mean he would acknowledge he didn’t belong in the White House…yeah, right?

Kevin Marks • mastodon (AP)
@JugglingWithEggs that's why it works; we're comfortable with being weird and hanging out with weirdos, but MAGA types pretend they're the normal ones.
Think of how Farage goes on about normal people.

Bought one of those £30 "hologram" fan things. Has a rather pleasing "Back To The Future 2015" kind of vibe to it, and surprisingly easy to load your own images on to! :) #hologram #retrofuturist #hologramFans #backtothefuture

It comes with a micro sd card that contains a file converting application and WiFi remote software. Haven't tried the remote yet, but to upload pictures you just upload a file, run a converter, it then produces a file you drop in the root of the SD card, and it displays.

Just four companies in the U.S. control:

85% of beef processing

80% of corn seed distribution

77% of fertilizer production

69% of grocery sales

Wondering why food prices are so high?

Minimal competition means maximized price-gouging.

it would be cool if there were a public wiki for how to lobotomize modern cars.

like:
software to enter dealer mode to reset or disable location history,
the CAN message to disable a biometric / tracking system,
how to physically unplug the 5g radio / antenna,
remove all phone contact info

#Trump is not only saying he only needs Christians to vote this once, because then he’ll ‘fix it’, he’s also saying people don’t need to vote at all for him to win.

He’s saying the election will be determined by something other than votes…the crooked officials he’s already got on board to certify the results.

He’s not even bothering to hide his fascism.

Internationally speaking that would probably be seen as a "weakness", especially in the United States. It's a good idea though...I would love to see it happen.
Juggling With Eggs • mastodon (AP)

@roknrol

Just waiting to see what happens if Republican voting officials refuse to certify Democrat wins doesn’t seem like a great idea given Trump’s previous. How else can the integrity of the election be protected? Can it be done from within the US given the Supreme Court is also compromised?

@revk and many of those places will conveniently include bonus as something to be considered in the overall package.

Either it's a bonus or it's pay. Problem when it is pay is that reducing it makes people really mad.

I wonder if pc power supplies are able to taste different flavours of power being fed to them.

Maybe like Spain has a specific high frequency ripple voltage that makes it spicy or sweden has a very low .02hz +/-1v fluctuation that has a calming effect on capacitors.

(I am hoping nothing goes wrong plugging in my PC to Sweden's grid XD)

A "qualia" I do not like is when you search Google for something and your first result is a forum or Reddit thread on the exact subject asking your exact question and the top response is very abrasively going uhhhhh, why didn't you just Google for it??"

No, john

Reading all these articles about the high traffic from AI bots, here is my experience from a small German hoster: It's a huge problem, and it is getting worse very fast. There are bots like claudebot from Antrophic which are so aggressive that they block whole systems, outranking actual attacks for example against WordPress. And they change their AWS cloud IPs so often that blocking doesn't help for long and they also ignore robots.txt. Our on-call is regularly alerted for such issues.

Dear modern web """developers""",
If your 2 factor authentication entry control is anything other than a single text input then you have failed. This trend of "we want a single text box per character" needs to die because it fucks with copy/paste and password managers.
Bonus points if it auto-validates instead of making the user submit so I get locked out of my account because of a typo on my phone. Thanks idiots.
