I just went and had a look at twitter again, for no particular reason. It's been a few weeks if not months since I last looked. First thing it said was "we need your date of birth", but there was a little X in the corner of the box so they didn't get my date of birth. I scrolled through a whole day of my timeline, looking at most things, in about 10‒20 minutes; that's a *lot* less than it used to be (I'm sure it used to take hours a day, like it now does here…!) so I'm guessing a huge amount of the people I follow have left, and sadly a bunch are undoubtedly only on bluesky now. Lastly, I can see that there *are* one or two people there who I would like to still be able to follow, but I'm not going back to Twitter for them, sorry. I guess the ones only on twitter and/or bluesky who I might have wanted to meet up with at CFz, I won't be able to arrange that with. There are also some more "broadcasty" accounts, like ones posting super sentai cosplay photos or talking about brexit or whatever that it would have been nice to continue to see, but oh well. 🤷♂️
another explanation for a significant drop in content is that twitter has started doing the facebook thing of not showing everything an account posts to all of that account’s followers unless they are paying. So it’s quite likely that theres a lot of posting going on and you just weren’t being shown it.
Personally, I don’t miss that site at all. It had gotten bad before I left and it’s apparently way worse now.
@Twig Well, I have had the account there nailed to the chronological timeline for just about forever, enforced by the "control panel for twitter" plugin for firefox, so as far as I know I'm seeing everything in reverse chronological order and *shouldn't* be missing anything unless they have deliberately and explicitly broken that now.
I suppose what I'm saying is, the way I use(d) twitter, I've no evidence anything gets missed out. But maybe, of course.
