The next time you're worried that you're not doing great at your job, just remember that someone probably made six figures to change HBO to HBO Max to Max.

Isn’t *that* the freaking truth?

I hate this toot, thanks!

Mostly because it's 100% correct.

The history is so weird if you grew up in the 80s/90s and always understood HBO and Cinemax as being at war.

HBO finally won that war, bought Cinemax, and renamed HBO Go to HBO Max to reflect that it had the content of both and, honestly, this was their apex.

And then in this crowning moment where they were the last premium cable channel standing, the freaking Discovery Channel bought them and wiped the name HBO from the face of the Earth. Total obliteration.

That is a low quality fact. It was actually 9 figures, and his name was David Zaslav.

True story: back when I was a freshman there in the late '80s, UNR in Reno hired a consulting firm to help them rebrand. I don't remember how much they spent, but the most visible change was removing a hyphen and replacing it with a comma: U. of Nevada-Reno to Nevada, Reno.

Next up, Taco Bell to become 'Bell', and Burger King to become 'King'.
Pippin friendica
@John @Low Quality Facts I misread that as "Burger King to become Bing". Weirder things have happened, I suppose.

in a corporate that large, it would have been a committee of people earning seven figures, agreeing to a proposal they paid a consulting firm six figures to prepare, who got an intern to write for free.

7 figures, I'm sure!

How do I get into the boardroom descision racket? Because I already have a lot of practice making stupid decisions about absolutely trivial matters.
