To make a 1 metre long cable with a crimp connector at each end, you will need:

181571 kilometres of cable.
368995 crimp connectors
1 cable stripper
1 connection crimper

Method

1. Strip back each end of the cable
2. Crimp a connector on to each end.
3. Discard any crimp connectors that fall off immediately.
4. Apply the tug test each connector that has stayed on.
5. Discard the crimp connectors that have failed the tug test.
6. Check for connectivity and polarity.
7. Cut off any crimp connectors that remain.
8. Strip back ends of now reduced length cable.
9. Repeat from step two until 1 metre of cable reached.
10. Throw the whole thing out as useless and start again with a new length of cable.

Warning: You may need to repeat this process 90-100 times before creating a usable cable.

Someone once posted on ASR about their new UPS "here's your new serial comms cable for the UPS, we made it 20 metres long just in case" "In case what? Plate tectonics moves the serial ports further apart?"

@Chloé Raccoon @TundraWolf If you want 100% uptime indefinitely you have to be prepared for these things!

This is just a very elaborate way to say that you suck at crimping and have cheap tools. :BlobHajMlem:

@wawik Oh no, I've had this happen with £30000 power crimping equipment too.
