@Richard K Niner ➡️ Scotiacon @Kootenay I haven't actually been to Scotiacon so I have no specific knowledge of it, but when I went to Megaplex back in the early 2000s (when it was around 200-300 attendees) and other small cons it was a *very* different vibe from today's massive cons; I found I actually got to recognise most of the people there, spoke to a lot of them at least once, and there weren't many things happening simultaneously so it felt a lot more communal - most of us went to the same event at the same time. When some fun random thing happened by chance, most of the con saw it instead of hearing about it days later and thinking "was I even at the same con?" I liked it! Big cons today I tend to just stick with my circle of friends and sometimes dip into an event or two - very different.
@pippin @kootenay One of the nice things about smaller cons: you can reach out and get to know more strangers without getting overwhelmed trying to keep track of them. And you WILL see familiar faces everywhere by the end of the con.
And reading that part about random things happening and everyone knowing about it reminds me of the smashed window at my last con.
