I once told my computer science PhD supervisor I didn't know what an array was. It turned out he'd just pronounced it *ever* so slightly differently (I think he put the stress on the first syllable instead of the second) and that was enough that I hadn't recognised the word and couldn't figure out what he was talking about! (Actually I do know what arrays areโ€ฆ!)


tech job hiring standards: don't bother unless you know our whole stack, can compile at least 3 languages with your mind, got a masters from mit And uc berkeley, and wrote at least one package that is in use in our dev pipeline

tech job anecdotes i have heard from my friends: i had a coworker once who didn't know how to use a for loop

@Twig it depends entirely on the languageโ€ฆ most, but I think not all, start at zero. But no, I usually try not to do anything like a normal person ๐Ÿ˜
