Bad idea: a website that tracks how long it's been since U2 played "I still haven't found what I'm looking for" in concert.

That way we'll know if they ever find it, since we can assume they'll stop playing the song.

It's like a musical warrant canary: as long as they keep playing it, we know they've not found it

the real questions is when they find it.. what will that mean for the rest of us? will they share? do they covet a darker power? all we can be sure is they still havent found it.. yet.

I'm confused. The Edge is just looking for arpeggios, and Bono is looking for... Ah. Perhaps a canary is warranted.

Setlist FM does track this! They even have a graph! It does look like maybe they've found it. https://www.setlist.fm/stats/songs/u2-23d6b80f.html?songid=2bd63086

or one for Counting Crows that tells us how many they're up to so far?

It turns out they may have already found it!

New upcoming hit “Turns out I’d had it in my hand the whole time”.
in 1998 while we were developing Slashdot we also built an mp3 custom streaming radio station for the house complete with a shockingly advanced for the era UI, frankly nothing better existed for years. I wrote a gtk-Perl front end at one point that had a statistics page that reported ‘MTBT’ or ‘mean time between Townshend’, which kept track of exactly what it sounds like, but for all of Pete’s solo work and the Who.

@risottobias no my joke is that they wrote the song because they haven't found something, and someday they'll find it, and stop playing the song.

the site is just to let the rest of us know when that happens

Honestly do we know that they even remember what it was they were looking for now? Like I’m younger than Bono by a bit and I have a hell of a time remembering why I went into the next room … let alone what I was looking for 37 years ago.

/cc @genehack

@perigrin @genehack that might be why they can't find it. maybe they have, and didn't even recognize it, because they forgot what it was they were looking for.

I certainly don't remember what the hell I was looking for 37 years ago. Given my age, probably... lego bricks?

@perigrin @genehack i've always assumed Bono was looking for a better song... but that is subjective.

this is why the U2/TomTom crossover satnav device never happened.
@mauvedeity it didn't help that the streets have no names
