Why Someone may "shutdown" and disengage from conversation
- their anxiety or trauma has been triggered and they've focused all their attention on coping with their symptoms
- they don't feel 'seen' or heard so now don't see the point in participating
- they're overwhelmed by the conversation topic/environment and have withdrawn into themselves
- their depression has set in and they now feel numb and disconnected from the world
- they feel judged/not accepted and are now "holding back" to prevent any further judgement
